Ruling on NEET- How does it affect KEAM Medical Entrance 2016?

There was recent ruling from SC allowing CBSE to conduct NEET. NEET is National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for medical and dental courses throughout India. The question is how will affect thousands of medical and dental aspirants in Kerala since CEE has already conducted KEAM Medical Entrance for 2016.

The following is the summary of court order-
  1. AIPMT 2016 to be held on 1st May, 2016 shall be phase I of NEET.
  2. Phase II of NEET for the left out candidates shall be held on 24th July, 2016 by inviting applications with fee.
  3. Combined result of both the Tests shall be declared on 17th August, 2016.
  4. CBSE will provide All India Rank. Admitting Authorities will invite applications for Counselling and merit list shall be drawn based on All India Rank.
  5. All associated with conduct of Exam including Central Govt., State Govt., institutions, Police etc. will extend all necessary support to CBSE and permit security measures like use of electronic and communication devices Jammers etc. for timely and fair conduct of the NEET.
  6. Any difficulty with regard to implementation of orders of this Court the stake holders may approach this Hon'ble Court
According to AIPMT website-
The responsibility of the CBSE is limited to the conduct of the entrance test, declaration of result and providing merit list to the DGHS and participating States/ Universities/ Institutions.
As of today Kerala CEE is not one of the participating state for NEET 2016. Kerala CEE is not opposed to the idea of a single entrance exam. Since KEAM 2016 is already completed the CEE has asked for an exception for 2016. We may need to wait and watch how this will play out.

What is the impact?
It looks like there will not be any affect  to candidates who are going to apply for medical allied courses like Ayurveda, Homoeo, Veterinary, Fisheries, Forestry etc. Candidates applying for MBBS may be affected if NEET is implemented in Kerala. AIPMT phase 1 is scheduled to be conducted on May 1, 2016. The notification for phase 2 is yet to come. Phase 2 of NEET will be conducted on July 24th. Phase 1 candidates cannot reappear or reapply for Phase 2.
