NEET requirement deferred until next year

NEET exam requirement caused a lot of confusion among MBBS/BDS aspirants in Kerala. As we know Supreme Court has decided to make NEET mandatory starting this year. Several of our users were not happy and commented that this move is confusing because of lack of clarity and planning. Well, the latest decision is that government has approved an ordinance to defer NEET exam requirement until next year.

This comes as a huge relief to many candidates. Once this ordinance is approved candidates may not sit for NEET 2 exam that is scheduled to be conducted on July 24th. NEET score will still be required if a candidate is applying for Central Govt and Private Medical Colleges (Management Quota). We are expecting a detailed notification from Kerala CEE (KEAM) shortly. We think the notification will come out as soon as the central government issues the ordinance as a rule.

In the mean time a NGO has decided to challenge the validity of this proposed ordinance in Supreme Court. It appears that this ordinance will partially overturn supreme court ruling. We will have to wait what happens when this ordinance is official issues. It looks like NEET drama is not over yet.

Update:
  • May 24: President signs the ordinances to allow state entrance exams
  • May 27: Supreme court refuses to stay the ordinance. This means that state governments can go ahead with the entrance exams for MBBS/BDS
  • May 27: NEET II notification is out. Last date to apply is June 25. You need to write NEET If you are planning to go to apply colleges admissions
    • All India Quota
    • State Govt Quota (if KEAM decides to go with it).
    • Private/Management/NRI quota in private colleges
